View Our Trails

Khaya Hanci is a horse and game ranch in the heart of Limpopo, South Africa, surrounded by unspoiled bushland and expansive views. It’s a place of both retreat and purposeful work – for people who are looking for real, grounded experiences with animals, responsibility, and a strong connection to the land.

At the center of the farm are our rescued horses, each with a story, many from difficult or neglected backgrounds. Through consistent care, training, and calm routines, we give them space to recover and grow – physically and mentally. For experienced riders, we offer guided horseback trails across the property, passing through open bush and wildlife areas. These rides offer a unique and honest perspective on the connection between horse, rider, and natural surroundings.

Those who want to get more deeply involved can join our volunteer program – also designed for experienced riders who want to contribute actively. Tasks include horse care, groundwork, training, riding, and general farm duties. Solid experience in handling horses is essential, as many of our animals are sensitive and in rehabilitation.

One of Khaya Hanci’s most unique aspects is the diversity of wildlife on the property. Alongside our horses live giraffes, zebras, ostriches, emus, and various antelope species including kudus, elands, hartebeests, and wildebeest, as well as a herd of African buffalo. Among them is a very special resident: Snowflake, a rare white albino buffalo.

Khaya Hanci is not a polished safari lodge – it’s the real thing. Daily life here is shaped by the rhythm of animals, nature, and work. It requires openness, initiative, and physical resilience. In return, it offers honest experiences, space to learn, and a unique environment you’re not likely to forget.

  • My trip to South Africa is one of the things I have not regretted for a second.

During the much too short 6 weeks on Khaya Hanci, I learned a lot, such as the behaviour of wild animals, how to handle many individual horses, including young horses, and many other things about life in South Africa. My personal highlight was definitely the many animals. From adorable dogs to giraffes, rhinos, snakes and horses, there really was everything that fulfilled me as an absolute animal lover. The...
